architectural Heritage

The Heritage Project focuses on analyzing the influence of time and space on architecture and urban planning, addressing the transformation of spatial structures throughout history. It highlights the importance of understanding interventions in a place and how they alter spatial structures at various scales, from individual architectural projects to large-scale urban interventions. The course emphasizes the need to deeply comprehend historical processes to propose improvements in habitability while preserving historical values and positive elements. It advocates for prioritizing tradition, both in its spatial aspect and the life models it represents, as a foundation for future development, aiming to avoid past mistakes in managing both natural and built preexistences. The aim is for architects to consider the creative process and the evolution of a place as an integral part of their work, ensuring balanced improvements and continuity.

Apple Liberation Project at Gabriel García Márquez

This project allowed us to assess heritage from a critical standpoint, evaluating the architectural languages of different eras, taking into account the aesthetic and functional aspects of each building and modification within the block. In this way, we proposed a project in response to the identified issues.

Project for the Consolidation, Revitalization, and Integration of the Historic Blocks of Mompox

We had a second exercise where we had the opportunity to conduct a comprehensive survey of facades and layouts of the historical blocks in Mompox from scratch. Once again, we assessed the heritage based on environmental, functional, and aesthetic criteria, following the characteristic styles of different periods.
